What is the best kind of flooring for a busy hair salon?

Anything rugged. Stained concrete is an option, albeit an expensive one.

It doesn't have the cracks and grout lines that would interfere with sweeping up hair, etc.

Ceramic tile is a very durable surface and it is recommended for basically any type of application. It's water resistant; they are porcelain tile which is frost resistant, frost proof in some cases. They are laid and installed even outdoors. Then you have got slate stone flooring which is hard as a rock and the styling that goes into ceramic tile gives you a lot of design opportunities and flexibility. The primary advantage is the ease of maintenance and the durability combined with styling of the floor.

Better use Porcelain ceramic tiles which are made from a blend of fine-grain clays and other minerals to produce a very dense body, which makes it highly resistant to moisture, staining and wear. Because of these features, porcelain tile will withstand years of heavy foot traffic in both interior and exterior applications while maintaining its color and beauty. What is the best kind of flooring for a busy hair salon?
Aside from the durability it will require you need to think about standing on that floor all day. A good compromise might be solid vinyl. This is a thick tile that is colored through and through (the front and back are the same) and it wears like iron. It isn't the most beautiful look but can be quite nice. Tile wears great but can be cold looking and tough on your back when you stand all day as well as allowing noise to sound even louder. Go to a flooring store and have a look at some samples and ask them some for details about wear etc.
VCT tile. It is very durable, the tiles bump flush together so no hair can get into the cracks. Call any General contractor or flooring contractor. Hair and dirt have a tendancy to stick to the grout lines of ceramic tile, as well as painted concrete.

This tile will last a long time and can be replaced tile by tile if needed.
VCT would be your best bet. You can buy several colors and make a design. Also, a little water on it wouldn't cause a problem, and if you damage one, you can heat it up with a hairdryer and replace it yourself. You can also use a luxury tile and not have to wax it.
Must agree with drfrieze. . . a high grade vinyl would serve well. Remember, you ladies are standing for hours on end. . . trust me, ceramic tile will KILL you! Be nice to your feet!
I would think a heavy ceramic tile would work best since it dosen't show much wear, and it's still fairly easy to clean.
dark coloured ceramic floor tiles to avoid staining from hair colours. laminate and wood tends to stain. good luck!
I would put in a good commercial grade vinyl tile.
